The BnL expands the list of out-of-commerce works on the EUIPO portal

Luxembourgish Collection

The National Library of Luxembourg (BnL) announces the addition of two new sets of Luxembourgish publications to the list of works presumed out of commerce, available on the website of the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO).

The first set concerns electronic publications collected as part of the digital legal deposit over recent years. It includes around 800 documents, mostly originating from public administrations, ministries and other public sector institutions.

The second set brings together more than 9,000 monographs dating from the 1980s to the present day. Drawn from the printed heritage collections, these works have been digitised as part of the digitisation campaigns carried out by the BnL.

The new titles are published on the EUIPO portal for a period of six months, during which rights holders may oppose the out-of-commerce status attributed to their works. Once this period has elapsed without opposition, the digitised works are made available on eluxemburgensia.lu and become accessible to the public.

Each year, the BnL and Luxorr (Luxembourg Organization for Reproduction Rights) will expand this collection by adding new titles under the out-of-commerce publication license. Following another six-month notice period, these works will become accessible under the same framework. In February 2026, an initial set of 4,000 works was made available online on eluxemburgensia.lu.

This initiative is part of a partnership between the BnL and Luxorr, ensuring wider dissemination of these publications through the eluxemburgensia.lu platform. By making forgotten works available to the public once more, this project contributes to the preservation and promotion of Luxembourg’s cultural heritage.
