Procedure

Registering online

If you’ve got a Luxtrust, eID or eIDAS product, or if you are a student at a Luxembourgish secondary or higher education institution approved by the State, you can register online with MyGuichet.

Please come to the reception desk, where you can fill in a registration form available in several languages. Don’t forget to bring a valid form of ID.

Renewals

Registration is valid for two years. After this period, you can renew it online or at the reception desk.

Not permitted

  • Backpacks, suitcases, briefcases, handbags, document wallets and other bags
  • Coats, jackets, raincoats, motorcycle helmets and other bulky clothing
  • Trolleys, prams and pushchairs
  • Food and beverages (except water)
  • Non-transparent bottles and thermos flasks
  • Loud conversations or phone calls
  • Rearranging tables and chairs
  • Moving or disconnecting computers, scanners, printers, cables or other equipment

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to register to use the BnL’s services?

Access to the Reading Room is open to everyone. You’re welcome to consult the direct-access collections on site, attend our events, visit our exhibitions and make use of our spaces without registering.

However, registration is required if you wish to:

  • consult items held in closed stacks,
  • reserve or borrow documents,
  • use the computers and photocopiers,
  • book a group study room.

Do I need to live in Luxembourg or be a Luxembourg national to register?

No. Anyone aged 14 or over can register with the BnL, regardless of nationality or place of residence.

Please note, however, that borrowing items and accessing digital resources is limited to users living in Luxembourg or in neighbouring regions.

My registration has expired. How can I renew it?

Registration is valid for two years. After this period, you can renew it:

  • at the BnL reception desk, or
  • online in just a few clicks via MyGuichet.

I’ve lost my library card. What should I do?

If your card has been lost, a replacement can be issued at the reception desk for a fee of €5.
