The Posters and Postcards Collection comprises around 50,000 Luxembourgish posters, both historical and contemporary. The posters that have already been digitised and catalogued cover a wide range of subjects, including tourism, illustrated posters produced before 1940, text-based posters published before 1940 (regulations, auctions), balls and local festivities throughout the country, sport, commercial advertising, fairs, town and community anniversaries, as well as the first posters issued by the National Lottery. The collection continues to grow through regular acquisitions.

The Posters and Postcards Collection includes around 60,000 illustrated postcards relating to Luxembourg. An illustrated postcard is defined as any postcard published in Luxembourg or abroad that contains an image connected to the country. Intended to be sent without an envelope, these postcards exist both as circulated and unused items.

The subjects represented are diverse, ranging from geographical views to a wide variety of themes. The collection also includes illustrated correspondence cards and photographic postcards with a printed address grid.

The collection is being digitised progressively, and part of the material can be viewed on eluxemburgensia.lu. You can search for and reserve these items via the online catalogue a-z.lu.

These rare and valuable documents may be viewed only on site and by appointment, in the Rare Books Reading Room Dr Jean-Claude Loutsch.

Digitised postcards can be consulted on the portal eluxemburgensia.lu. They cannot, however, be searched through the eluxemburgensia.lu search engine or via a-z.lu. The postcards are organised by theme and geographical area according to their illustration.

Due to copyright restrictions, postcards can only be viewed in high resolution within the National Library of Luxembourg. PDF versions of the files can also be downloaded on site.

Access to the original copies of digitised postcards may only be permitted in exceptional cases.
