Workspaces

The Reading Room offers different ways of using its resources, from comfortable armchairs to desks with computers. There are also eleven carrels (group study rooms), three soundproof booths and a Music Room, which must be booked online in advance.

Carrels 1.1, 1.2 and 1.3 are located on the first floor.

First floor

Three study rooms are located on the first floor. Carrel 1.1 is limited to two people, while carrels 1.2 and 1.3 can each accommodate up to four people.

Second floor

Carrel 2.1, located on the second floor, can accommodate up to six people. It is equipped with a touchscreen that allows you to connect a laptop.

At the back of the Media Centre, you will find three audio booths where you can access multimedia materials.

The Music Room, reserved for consulting items from the music collection, is equipped with an electric piano that should be used with headphones.

Carrel 2.1, audio booths and the Music Room are located in the Media Centre on the second floor.
Carrels 3.1, 3.2, 3.3, 3.4, 3.5, 3.6 and 3.7 are located on the third floor.

Third floor

Carrels 3.1 to 3.7 are located on the third floor and can each accommodate between four and six people.

All are equipped with a touchscreen for connecting a laptop, except for carrels 3.4 and 3.5.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a library card to book a workspace?

Yes, you must be registered as a reader at the National Library. To access the booker.bnl.lu website, you must log in with your library card number and password.

How much does it cost to book a workspace?

Booking a workspace is a free service provided by the National Library.

How many days in advance can I book a workspace?

You can book a workspace for the same day or up to 7 days in advance.

Are there any daily or weekly booking limits?

Yes, bookings are limited to a maximum of 2 hours per day and 4 bookings per week.

How do I cancel my booking?

Go to booker.bnl.lu, log in and click on “My account” at the top right of the page. Your bookings are displayed. Click on the cross next to the booking you wish to cancel. Then confirm the cancellation.

Can I bring my child with me?

The National Library has a family room for parents with children. Please note that we do not offer childcare. The parents or accompanying adults are responsible for the behaviour, safety and supervision of their children while on the BnL premises. Management accepts no responsibility for any accidents.

The family room is strictly reserved for people accompanied by a child (max. 2 adults and their children under 12). A prior booking is not required.
