The National Library of Luxembourg has launched a pilot project to make the legal deposit of printed publications from local authorities easier. Boxes specially designed for this purpose are being made available to participating municipalities and are regularly collected by the BnL. Previously, local authorities had to send the documents themselves. So far, 43 municipalities have joined the project, making the process simpler for them.
Legal deposit requires publishers and public bodies to submit 1 to 4 copies, depending on the type of document, to the BnL to ensure they are preserved for future generations. This obligation applies to all publications produced in Luxembourg – including books, periodicals, posters, postcards, leaflets, calendars and other printed and digital materials.
This project does not affect the collection of digital legal deposit, which will continue via the usual submission methods.
Municipalities not yet involved in the pilot project are encouraged to contact the BnL’s legal deposit service. Other interested administrations and publishers are also welcome to participate.
