Globalizing higher education and strengthening the European spirit. How the Bologna reform has changed our world edited by Christiane Dienel

Non-Luxembourgish

At a time when European cohesion is facing major challenges, this book focuses on the harmonization of European higher education and its signification for the development of a European identity. The Bologna process signed in 1999 by education ministers from 29 countries in order to create a European Higher Education Area has been the enabling factor of this harmonization that gave stronger coherence to higher education systems across Europe, facilitated student and staff mobility, ensured mutual recognition of study periods, qualifications and diplomas and improved inclusiveness, accessibility, attractiveness and competitivity of European higher education. As a structuring framework, the Bologna Process has created the conditions for the Europeanisation of students which, in addition to personal advantages on the labor market, has certainly also contributed significantly to the development of Europe as an economic power.

Originally published in various volumes and issues of Innovation: The European Journal of Social Science, the contributions no only address the various aspects of the Bologna Process, including its development over the past 20 years, but also deal with topics such as national interests versus globalization as well as competition and opportunities for cross-border cooperation within higher education.

The book is certainly of interest to all those interested in european and education studies as well as to all those who care about the European spirit and its further development.
