Maritime Mobilities in Anglophone Literature and Culture ed. by Alexandra Ganser and Charne Lavery

Non-Luxembourgish

Maritime Mobilities in Anglophone Literature and Culture is a collection of essays that cover a wide range of examples of mobilities, including the role of the sea in colonial and postcolonial contexts, the representation of seafaring communities, and the relationship between the sea and environmental concerns.

In an era marked by refugee disasters, oceanic pollutions, and exploitative industries, this book examines how the sea has been represented in Anglophone literary and cultural imaginaries from the early modern period to the present. The contrast between the romantic and metaphorical way in which the sea is often depicted on the one hand and the rough materiality it can represent on the other hand are an interesting example of the variety and evolution in Anglophone literature and culture.
