Press release
The National Library (BnL) becomes the first cultural institution in Luxembourg to launch an online survey aimed at assessing its economic contribution to society and Luxembourg’s scientific community. This pioneering initiative seeks to demonstrate the tangible benefits of the library for the country’s economic and cultural development, guiding strategic decisions for the future. With the support of participants, we can better plan the library’s future and tailor its services to best meet the public’s needs.
The survey lasts 10 minutes and takes place from 20 January 2024 until 23 March 2025. The results will be published in July 2025.
After completing the anonymous survey, participants will have the opportunity to provide their contact information and enter a prize draw. This information will only be used for the purpose of the draw and to notify them, and is not be connected to the survey.
We use the contingent valuation methodology (CVM), a scientifically recognised method to determine the monetary value of non-marketable services. The CVM method was developed by Nobel laureates and has been applied globally since the 1980s and is even accepted as evidence in court in the USA.
Participants are asked to answer hypothetical questions reflecting the value of the BnL and its services. Various scenarios are presented to understand how important the library is to users and what economic value it offers them.
The survey is being conducted in collaboration with the renowned market research institute bms marketing research + strategy. bms marketing research + strategy is an established market research firm based in Munich with over 25 years of experience conducting international studies. It provides tailored solutions and robust analyses in various fields, ranging from market trends and consumer preferences to the monetary valuation of non-market goods.
