Research days on medieval armorials were a complete success

Manuscripts Collection

On 4 and 5 December 2023, the National Library of Luxembourg organised research days on medieval armorials, highlighting the importance of reconciling research on historical editions with the opportunities offered by digital humanities.

These research days provided an exceptional platform for national and international researchers to present their latest advances. The varied programme covered topics ranging from the printing of armorials, historical collections of French, Italian, Belgian and Luxembourgish origin to heraldry in the digital age.

The research days provided an exceptional platform for national and international researchers.

One of the highlights of the programme was the presentation by Jean-Christophe Blanchard of the Université de Lorraine and member of the International Academy of Heraldry (AIH), who presented two medieval armorials from the Dr Jean-Claude Loutsch collection, which was generously donated to the BnL by Mrs Josannette Loutsch-Weydert in 2022.

This event was a unique opportunity to foster an exchange of ideas, thereby contributing to the advancement of knowledge in this field and to the preservation of medieval heraldic heritage.
