The BnL makes available online a remarkable collection of more than 1,100 historical portraits

The National Library of Luxembourg (BnL) announces the publication of a remarkable collection of more than 1,100 historical portraits on its eluxemburgensia.lu portal. Dating from the 16^th to the 19^th centuries, these portraits depict members of the nobility as well as figures who played an important role in the political, social, and cultural life of their time.

Among them are Johannes Sleidanus (1506–1556), Luxembourgish historian, Pierre-Ernest von Mansfeld (1517–1604), Jean de Beck (1588–1648), Governor of the Duchy of Luxembourg, William I, King of the Netherlands (1772–1843), Maria Theresa, Empress of the Holy Roman Empire (1717–1780) and Grand Duke Adolf (1817–1905).

Fully digitised, this collection is now freely accessible on eluxemburgensia.lu. It represents a key resource for anyone interested in history, portrait art, and representations of European elites across the centuries.
