As part of its ambitious programme to digitise its print heritage, the National Library of Luxembourg (BnL) announces the online publication of historical issues of the Lëtzebuerger Journal on eluxemburgensia.lu. Issues published from April 1948 to December 2020 are now freely available online.

The daily newspaper was first published on 5 April 1948, following the merger of the Obermosel-Zeitung, founded in Grevenmacher in 1881, and d’Unio’n, published between 1944 and 1948 by the resistance movement of the same name.

For more than seven decades, the Lëtzebuerger Journal chronicled the development of Luxembourgish society and is now an important source for the study of the country’s political, economic and social history. Since 1 January 2021, the newspaper is published as a digital news magazine, featuring articles and podcasts online.

Making these editions available online now enables users to search the full text and access several decades of the publication remotely.
