The Cedom adds 6 new inventories of music archive collections to a-z.lu

Cedom Music Collection

Following the first online publication of music archive inventories in November 2023, the Cedom has expanded this initial panel by adding the inventories of the Théodore Decker, Peter Faber, Victor Goldschmit, Alfred Kowalsky, René Mertzig and Paul Sontag collections. These can now be freely viewed on a-z.lu.

The archival collections of these Luxembourg composers contain a variety of documents, including:

  1. musical and/or textual works in the form of sketches, manuscripts or editions;
  2. correspondence such as letters, postcards, etc.
  3. biographical documents detailing the composer’s education, studies and professional life, such as diplomas, certificates, honorary medals, CVs, photographs and personal objects;
  4. collectors’ items such as press cuttings, concert programmes, posters, autographed or annotated documents.

These archival collections offer a unique insight into the lives, works and impact of these musical figures on the country’s cultural history.

Making these inventories available on a-z.lu marks an important milestone in the Cedom’s ongoing effort to make Luxembourg’s musical heritage accessible. It also serves as a valuable resource for researchers, students, musicologists and music lovers alike.

The inventories are presented in the form of lists containing, among other things, the title of the work, the authors / composers / arrangers, the date of creation and the format. To view these lists, simply search a-z.lu using the keyword “Fonds”, followed by the surname of the composer in question. All the inventories can be searched using the keyword “Fonds musicaux” and by activating the “Archival collections” filter in the “Type of publication” section.
