Press release
The “BnL Summer School” took place from 31 July to 5 August 2023, and was held to teach through workshops and practical work the different tasks of future librarians, archivists and documentalists. This training program is an integral part of the National Library’s educational offering. Fifteen high school and university students completed the BnL Summer School 2023, and were rewarded with a certificate of participation, which they will be able to use in their future professional endeavours.
The curriculum was very varied: the courses covered document acquisition and cataloguing, reading room operations and logistics within the BnL, as well as the acquisition of digital publications and the preservation and digitisation of Luxembourg’s heritage.
Over the course of a week, participants not only got a hands-on look at how the BnL works, the complexity and diversity of professions in the fields of library science, archival science and documentation, but also discovered the many missions of the BnL as well as the challenges that libraries face on a daily basis in the digital age.
What’s more, the BnL Summer School offered them a unique opportunity to meet and exchange ideas with peers and future colleagues, as well as with experts from the BnL. Shared activities also added a touch of entertainment to the course.
The BnL would also like to thank the Jonk BAD association for their help and for hosting an information stand.
