The National Library is proud to announce the success of its seminar on the links between literature and music in the Luxembourgish cultural sphere. Organised from 14 to 15 March 2024 by the Société luxembourgeoise de littérature générale et comparée, this event brought together renowned researchers to explore the interactions between these two artistic fields.
Topics included the historical development of the interplay between music and literature and analyses of works by Luxembourgish authors.
The event opened with a concert at the Conservatoire de la Ville de Luxembourg on 13 March, setting the scene for insightful discussions and presentations over the following days. Researchers presented a range of topics, such as the role of music in the literature of the World War I, the influence of operetta in Luxembourgish culture and the integration of music in contemporary novels.
The sessions also explored themes such as folksong, poetry in music and the representation of adolescence through musical motifs. In addition, those interested could join a guided tour of the Centre d’études et de documentation musicales (Cedom), which allowed them to better understand the National Library’s efforts to preserve and promote Luxembourg’s musical heritage.
