Teaching honesty in a populist era. Emphasizing truth in the education of citizens Sarah M. Stitzlein
This book by Sarah M. Stitzlein, Professor of Education and Affiliate Professor of Philosophy at the University of Cincinnati is about the role played by honesty in our contemporary world in which populism, disinformation and manipulative tendencies are becoming increasingly prevalent. She thereby also emphasizes the importance of honesty for the survival of democracies, as well as for human coexistence in a peaceful society. Concluding from this that schools need to promote the corresponding skills such as culture of debate, respect, intellectual virtue and civic reasoning, she finally tries to give teachers recommendations to help them in planning and improving citizenship education and enabling young people to assume social responsibility.
A very readable book that could be of particular interest to those involved in the education of children and young people as well as to all those generally interested in the future development of social coexistence.
