This is the premise of The Last Book, the latest body of work by Amsterdam-based photographer Reinier Gerritsen. The worldand the wordis in the process of becoming less and less dependent on paper. Our reading habits, especially as they occur in public spaces, are subtly shifting each day. Gerritsen has taken up the current plethora of books and their readers on New York Citys subways, an indicator of the still-robust nature of public readership, in the face of its ostensible decline. »

La seconde surprise de l'amour
de Marivaux ; mise en scène de Luc BondyLuc Bondy plonge dans la cascade des surprises amoureuses de Marivaux pour explorer avec fascination le labyrinthe des relations humaines. Marivaux et Bondy ont en commun le goût immodéré du voyage. Non pas celui qui conduirait vers des rivages vierges, mais celui qui explore l’univers si complexe des relations humaines. La pièce s’ouvre par les soupirs d’une dame affligée. La Marquise est veuve depuis peu : « Il n’y a plus de consolation pour moi » affirme-t-elle à sa domestique effarée. Comme par un fait exprès, Le Chevalier a aussi perdu son amour. Angélique, recluse au couvent pour empêcher un mariage forcé, ne sera jamais sienne et l’honnête homme entend « se confiner dans le fond de sa province, pour y finir une vie qui lui est à charge ». Mis en présence l’un de l’autre pour un motif quasi anodin, les deux êtres se découvrent, « reconnaissent » leur douleur. Et là, très exactement, surgit une question qui semble avoir passionné Marivaux: comment naît l’amour?

Finding Forrester

This is an American film about class and race, but one that makes the real issue Jamal's unsuspecting need to defend himself against accusations of plagiarism. His artistic mentor is a reclusive novelist, whose whereabouts he keeps secret even when he stands to lose everything. Van Sant has never been one for the emotionally overblown or overstated. This makes him an ideal interpreter of some of the more wrinkled social statements in the script. Sure, maybe Gus has gone Hollywood, but at least he's gone there sideways -- fully aware that a soul is a terrible thing to waste.

König Lear
von William Shakespeare ; Inszenierung Luc BondyDem Regisseur Luc Bondy gelang nun in seiner "Lear"-Inszenierung am Burgtheater das grandiose Kunststück, das schwarz schillernde Drama vom ewigen Jammer der menschlichen Kreatur wie ein seltsam fernes und gerade dadurch unheimlich nahes, uns arg betreffendes Märchenbuch aufzublättern. Leichthändig wendet er die schwerlastenden Seiten, entdeckt das Gran Süße im Galligen, im Blöden Komisches, im blutspritzend Brutalen das Groteske, im rasenden Irrsinn Hellsichtiges und im tiefsten Aberwitz das alltäglich Absurde. Jene unergründliche Vielbödigkeit macht diese unglaubliche Tragödie so glaubhaft. Macht sie zu einer Komödie des Menschseins. Freilich gelänge dieses Theaterwunder nicht ohne das sagenhafte Ensemble. Und gleich gar nicht ohne Gert Voss als Lear. Dieser Voss in seinem schlabbernden alten Glitzerrock und der weit sich bauschenden weißen Bluse ist wie eine im Sturm des Lebens so grotesk wie hymnisch wehende Flagge des Wahns wie der Weisheit.
