Extensively researched, impeccably cast, beautifully filmed, written and directed with masterly economy and restraint, this is a timely reminder that a fiction film can teach complicated world politics in an entertaining way. »

This documentary portrays a highly regimented visit organised through the unexpected figure of a forty-year-old Spaniard who is the government's only foreign employee, Special Delegate Foreign Relations DPRK. Over the course of Longoria's stay, he goes from being an affable curiosity to revealing the depth of his devotion to the party line ; he speaks to a group of school children and tells them how Kim Jong-un is revered across the globe and how North Korea is - effectively - the centre of the world. Another official, however, admits to Longoria's quietly probing camera that the DPRK's understanding of how the world sees it is actually very limited. The aim is to highlight the propaganda wars being embarked upon both within the country's borders and on the international stage. »

    „Der Luxemburger Jérôme Reuter meldet sich nach einer Vielzahl historisch geprägter Konzeptalben seines Projekts Rome mit "The Hyperion Machine" zurück: Die Platte verbindet seinen typischen Chanson Noir mit unterschiedlichen Einflüssen aus Americana, Dark Ambient und Industrial – und diesmal ohne ein durchgängig thematisches Konzept. "Celine In Jerusalem" bietet mit sachtem, gut produziertem Akustikfolk, Cello und Sprachsamples einen guten Einstieg in Romes ausgeprägte Schwermut. "Transference" erinnert mit nach vorne gehenden Post Punk eher an seine frühen Tracks für das schwedische Label Cold Meat Industry. "Stillwell (feat. Thåström)" fährt das Tempo zurück, wodurch der Track mit dezent gehaltenem Ambientfundament einen interessanten Kontrast zum bisher Gebotenen darstellt. Das wieder schwermütige "Skirmishes For Diotima" wartet dagegen mit Bezügen zum Eros-Konzept Platons auf - fast ein Symbol für die lose zusammenhängende Thematik des Longplayers : Jérôme schrieb ihn in Anbetracht der griechischen Finanzkrise. Während er aufnahm kamen dann die Flüchtlinge übers Mittelmeer. Die erste Hälfte von "The Hyperion Machine" dominieren eher einfach gehaltene Arrangements - bei mittlerweile einer Handvoll Alben und EPs kann man auch nicht bei jeder Veröffentlichung erwarten, dass Rome eine gänzlich neue Ausrichtung an den Tag legt. Danach gestalten sich die Tracks mit zunehmenden Ausflügen in ambiente Sounds spannender. Thematisch geht es um das Schicksal der Juden sowie politischen Gegnern in der Zeit des Nationalsozialismus. Der mit historischen Samples gespickte Ambienttrack bildet einen äußerst atmosphärischen Abschluss für dieses hörenswerte Album. Die Musik würde aufgrund der einfachen, melodischen Rhythmik und der zurückhaltenden Grundstimmung auch ohne die schwere Thematik funktionieren. Reuters legt an seine Songs einen nahezu perfektionistischen Qualitätsanspruch an. Trotzdem lohnt es sich tiefer einzusteigen. "Der Hörer soll kein Vorwissen mitbringen müssen. Aber wenn er dann tiefer eindringen, mehr als nur diese physische Erfahrung mitnehmen und eine ganze Welt entdecken kann, ist es umso besser", so Reuter in einem Interview. Am Ende bleibt ein eigenständiges Gesamtkunstwerk.“

The film follows a young Allen Ginsberg (Radcliffe) while he is attending Columbia University in 1944 and shows how the relationship he formed with his charismatic fellow student Lucien Carr (DeHaan) would pave the way for the Beat Generation of the 1950s. Through his friendship with Carr, who is the unwilling love interest of the much older David Kammerer (Michael C. Hall), Ginsberg is introduced to other aspiring writers William Burroughs (Ben Foster) and Jack Kerouac (Jack Huston) and the four young men take a hedonistic foray through New York seeking out inspiration while experimenting in all aspects of their lives. Unaware of the tumultuous path they have created for themselves, a difficult and unforeseen event will bring the group even closer together and mould them into the best minds of their generation. »

While that sounds bleak--and the setting in a small town on the East coast of Scotland is certainly stark--there is considerable human warmth in Alan Rickman's directorial debut. Without a conventional story, Rickman simply cuts between four strands, spending most of the time with the difficult relationship between a mother and daughter, played by real-life parent and offspring Phyllida Law and Emma Thomson. Strong dialogue, with a dash of Samuel's Beckett's existential squabbling angst and outstanding performances make this both funny and touching. Meanwhile Thomson's teenage son begins a tentative romance with the new girl in town, two younger boys bunk off school to the icy beach and a pair of elderly ladies attends a funeral. »

    „Dans un futur proche, dans une société où 80% de la population est sans emploi, une jeune femme, Izia, tente de survivre. Elle est née dans "la Zone", du mauvais côté du Mur, un Mur qui a été dressé pour séparer les zonards des 20% d'actifs de la Ville. Au fil du temps, les tensions se sont accentuées entre les deux territoires: une rébellion est née parmi certains chômeurs. Les activistes multiplient les actes de sabotage et de pression, et l'équilibre entre la Ville et la Zone se fragilise. Le Gouvernement décide alors de mettre en place la mesure des "Emplois Solidaires" pour calmer la situation: 10.000 habitants de la Zone vont être sélectionnés pour travailler dans la Ville. La série tire un autre atout de ses choix de direction artistique. Ce sont le siège du Parti communiste français, œuvre de l’architecte brésilien Oscar Niemeyer, et la Bibliothèque nationale de France, œuvre de Dominique Perrault, qui ont été judicieusement choisis pour cadre des lieux de pouvoir de la Ville.“
