"Set in China in 1926, it deals with the trials and tribulations of an American gunboat crew who learn to love the natives while trying to save them from their own follies and the depredations of everybody else. Behind its timid criticism of imperialist attitudes, lies a much louder and heartfelt American cry - with China 1926 standing in for Vietnam 1966 - of 'Why doesn't everybody love us when we do our best for you?' To leaven the message, McQueen and Attenborough, as the two most humanitarian members of the crew of a ship run by coolie labour, both get romances: McQueen with Candice Bergen's American mission teacher, Attenborough with Andriane's half-caste girl."

"“High Noon is the Citizen Kane of Western cinema. It is, simply put, a masterpiece. Every aspect of the film screams precision. The acting, the music, the set, the dialogue, the camerawork, is all perfection. Gary Cooper is flawless in this film, and it will always go down as the greatest role he ever played. It's an allegorical tale about the McCarthy witch hunts, penned by HUAC blacklisted writer Carl Foreman, which also offers a number of well-thought-out observations on the nature of violence. It's a beautifully composed film - courtesy of Floyd Crosby's picturesque sunlight and shadow compositions - which achieves the difficult task of being about morality while avoiding tart sermonising and hollow admonitions.”"

"RiP: a remix manifesto is an entertaining look at the complex world of copyright law. Beginning with the cutting-edge sounds of Girl Talk, a remix artist who samples other artists to create his own distinctive sound, director Brett Gaynor argues that more relaxed fair use legislation is the only way forward. Avoiding the dryness of its subject, RiP is as fast paced, energetic and colourful as its subject. It will play well amongst the younger generation, for whom copyright infringement and the harsh penalties they can incur is a growing issue. It also features enough debate for general audiences, as it moves from music to pharmaceutical companies and their control over drug prices, no matter the human cost. A vigorous broadside against the perceived corporate control of contemporary copyright legislation, and an impassioned plea in support of elastic fair-use laws, RiP! A Remix Manifesto was made to provoke and certainly does that."
