    "Der bis dato unveröffentlichte autobiographische Roman des Dichters, Literaturkritikers und Journalisten Albert Hoefler (1899-1950) wird mit der vorliegenden Edition erstmals der Öffentlichkeit zugänglich gemacht. Der gebürtige Echternacher Hoefler erzählt in fiktionalisierter Form seine in der Abteistadt verlebte Kindheit und Jugend, seine Studienzeit in Bonn sowie seine Jahre als ARBED-Beamter in Esch/Alzette. Dabei schildert der Autor zum einen spannende lokal- sowie literaturhistorische Momente und entwirft zugleich ein facettenreiches, kaleidoskopartiges Zeitgemälde Luxemburgs in den Jahren 1909-1939. Zum anderen gestaltet er das innere Werden – Hoffnungen, Sehnsüchte und Kämpfe – seines Alter Ego, das früh die Neigung verspürt, zu schreiben und allmählich zum Dichter heranreift. In dem begleitenden Kommentar erläutert Jeff Schmitz die Entstehungsgeschichte des Manuskripts, die Besonderheiten der vorliegenden Edition sowie das literarische Konzept des Autobiographen Albert Hoefler. Ein biographischer Abriss lässt die wichtigsten Stationen in Hoeflers Leben Revue passieren. Dabei werden sowohl unmittelbare Bezüge zum Roman hergestellt als auch relevante Hintergründe beleuchtet und eingeflochten. Zudem wird Hoeflers Partizipation am und Stellung im Luxemburger Literaturbetrieb, der sich im Roman auf mehreren Ebenen spiegelt, eingehend untersucht. Die Entstehung und Entwicklung des Hoefler'schen Kunstideals werden ebenso nachgezeichnet wie sein literarisches Schaffen, seine Verbindungen zum Bund rheinischer Dichter oder seine Versuche zur Schaffung einer Luxemburger Schriftstellervereinigung."

    "Le Centre national de littérature héberge dans sa bibliothèque, mais aussi dans les diverses bibliothèques d’auteurs ainsi que dans les fonds d’archives anthumes et posthumes plus de 4000 exemplaires de livres dédicacés. L’exposition die Widmung – la dédicace ainsi que le catalogue qui l’accompagne mettent à l’honneur 37 volumes, pour la plupart extraits de cette collection. Ces ouvrages constituent des objets privés que des auteur(e)s ont fait circuler au gré de motifs divers. La dédicace quant à elle rend le livre qui la recèle unique et ouvre une fenêtre sur des instantanés de relations humaines et personnelles. Parfois, au-delà de son implication privée dans une dédicace, l’auteur ou le destinataire est lié à un paysage littéraire donné, que ce soit en tant qu’écrivain, éditeur ou encore critique. Dès lors, la dédicace dévoile non seulement un instantané de vie, mais aussi un pan d’histoire littéraire."

    "L'auteur luxembourgeois Tullio Forgiarini est un des douze lauréats du Prix de littérature de l'Union européenne 2013, dont les noms ont été révélés le 26 septembre 2013. Son roman "Amok-Eng Lëtzbuerger Liebeschronik", a convaincu le jury. Les lauréats se verront remettre leur prix lors de la cérémonie de gala qui se déroulera à Bruxelles, le 26 Novembre 2013, en présence de la Commissaire Androulla Vassiliou et de personnalités du monde de la littérature, de la culture et de la politique. Ils recevront tous la somme de 5.000 euros et leurs oeuvres seront prioritaires pour l’obtention d’une subvention de l’UE destinée à financer la traduction de son livre dans les autres langues européennes. Tullio Forgiarini est né en 1966 à Luxembourg d'un père Italien et d'une mère luxembourgeoise. Il est auteur, mais aussi professeur de lycée. Son oeuvre, souvent décrite comme sombre, est inspirée des polars Série noire. Amok est l'histoire violente d'un adolescent à la recherche de l'amour, de reconnaissance et d'une place dans la société. Par ailleurs, le réalisateur luxembourgeois Donato Rotunno a adapté le livre, ensemble avec l'auteur. Son film intitulé "Ouni d'Hänn-Sans les mains" devrait sortir en 2014."

    Der bemerkenswerte Anteil an Kompositionen für Männerchor in Laurent Menagers Oeuvre geht auf seine Tätigkeit als Dirigent bei dem Luxemburger Gesangverein „Sang & Klang“ zurück. Der Chor war eine anerkannte Größe im kulturellen Leben der Stadt. Zwischen der Gründung des Männerchors Sang & Klang im Jahre 1857 und der Gründung des Kirchenchors im Stadtviertel Pfaffenthal im Jahre 1881 liegen 24 Jahre. Ab 1861 war Menager bereits als Organist an die dortige Pfarrkirche verpflichtet worden. Die musikalische Umrahmung kirchlicher Feiern übernahm in dieser Zeit der Sang & Klang. Im Gestus dem Vorbild seines Lehrers Ferdinand Hiller und der deutschen Romantik verhaftet, passte Menager die Messen hinsichtlich Tonumfang und gesangstechnischer Anforderungen dem Können der Sänger des Gesangvereins an, was die Kompositionen auch heute noch für ambitionierte Laienchöre empfiehlt.

    «Mark Ravenhill has established himself as one of the most important playwrights to emerge from the 1990s. Provocative, dark, witty and satirical, his plays consistently probe the debased culture of our times. In Ravenhill’s first three full-length plays, Shopping and Fucking, Faust is Dead (1997) and Handbag (1998) there are few glimpses of a public sphere of politics beyond the solipsistic universes of the characters. In Ravenhill’s view, in a modern retail economy characterised by dispersal, there is no more factory floor where workers can find common cause. Instead, we find in his plays a concern for ‘micro-politics’ The world of Ravenhill’s plays is the underside of our modern culture of conspicuous consumption, where happiness awaits at the end of a commodity, where the logic of the marketplace is invincible.This second volume of plays brings together five plays from 2001-07. It includes Mother Clap's Molly House, a black comedy and celebration of human sexuality that premiered at the National Theatre in 2001; Citizenship, a bitter-sweet comedy about growing up that was developed by the National Theatre's Shell Connections programme in 2005; The Cut, a disturbing political fable that opened at the Donmar Warehouse in 2006; Product, Ravenhill's one man satire on the media industry that since its premiere at the Edinburgh International Festival in 2005, has been produced around the world, and Pool (no water), a shocking examination of the fragility of friendship and the jealousy and resentment inspired by success.»

    «Aus der zerstörerischen Heimat flieht Eisler 1933 in die rettende Fremde, aus den USA vertreibt ihn 1948 das Committee on Un-American Activities, zurück in die zerstörte Heimat. Anziehung und Abstoßung vertauschen im Exil ihre Pole. In Hollywood komponiert er für die Filmindustrie und kritisiert sie zugleich in seinem Buch »Komposition für den Film«; mit seiner Filmmusik ist er zwar erfolgreich, aber seine ernste Musik wird nicht beachtet; zeitweise verdient er gut, doch Schulden zehren immer wieder die Einkünfte auf. In seinen Liedern aus Hollywood beklagt er die Barbarei der Heimat und die Öde der Zuflucht. Erzählt wird vom unsteten Leben im Exil, von den Spielregeln der Hollywood-Gesellschaft und von den politischen Hintergründen seiner Verfolgung. Interpretiert werden seine Kompositionen, seine »Kunst zu erben« und seine Ästhetik der displaced form. Bisher unbekannte Quellen, u.a. das Protokoll seiner ersten, nichtöffentlichen Vernehmung durch das Komitee, werden vorgestellt und ausgewertet. Es entsteht das facettenreiche Bild eines melancholischen Kämpfers, der um Gradlinigkeit bemüht, doch von Widersprüchen gezeichnet war.»

    «Since 1990, French-born artist Orlan has done seven plastic surgery "performances" which have radically reconstructed her face. She last added futuristic-looking pads of skin to each temple--utilizing the process which ordinarily constructs heightened cheekbones. In a 1998 digital photography series called "Self Hybridization," she montaged pictures of herself with images of Pre-Columbian, American Indian, African and "mutant" figures. Notorious for the kind of stunts that make good sound bites--on French television in 1993, she gave Madonna a reliquary containing a few grams of flesh that had been removed during surgery, to which Madonna replied, "It looks like caviar"--Orlan has been the subject of a host of critical writings in the fields of Feminism, Body art and Performance art. Orlan's most definitive monograph to date, this volume contextualizes past works--which include not only performance, but painting, sculpture, photography and poetry--with the plastic surgery pieces for which she is best known. It is published following the artist's first museum retrospective, which took place at the Museum of Modern Art in Sainte-Etienne, France, on the occasion of her sixtieth birthday, in 2007. Organized by Lorand Hegyi, co-curator of the 2003 Venice Biennale, the retrospective brought Orlan's entire oeuvre together for the first time.»

    «Sometimes, even in the world of photography, miracles happen. On 19 December 2007, three battered, commonplace cardboard boxes arrived at the International Center of Photography in New York. Within these boxes the so-called Mexican Suitcase was a treasure trove of photographic history believed lost since World War II: the legendary Spanish Civil War negatives of Robert Capa, Gerda Taro, and David Seymour (known as Chim). The Mexican Suitcase contained 126 rolls of film, mostly shot between May 1936 and spring 1939, that are an inestimable record of innovative war photography and of a definitive episode in Spanish history. The photographs include Capas images of the Battle of Rio Segre, Chims famous image of a woman nursing a baby at a land reform meeting in Estremadura, and Taros last photos at the Battle of Brunete where she was killed in 1937. The story of the Mexican Suitcase itself is as fascinating as the photographs it contained. Carried by Capas studio manager from Paris to Bordeaux by bicycle in 1939, it came into the possession of General Francisco Aguilar González, the Mexican ambassador to the Vichy government in 194142, and found its way to Mexico City. Decades later the suitcase was discovered among Gonzálezs belongings and in 2007 was given to ICP, founded by Robert Capas brother Cornell Capa and home of the Capa and Taro archives as well as a large Chim collection. In 1979, Cornell Capa had implored the public to come forward with information about the Mexican Suitcase which he had spent years looking for: Anyone who has information regarding the suitcase should contact me and will be blessed in advance. This landmark two-volume publication, which accompanies a major exhibition at ICP and reproduces all 4,500 negatives from the suitcase, embodies the blessing Capa spoke of and presents the miraculous contents of the suitcase to the public for the first time.»
