The last white knight [Film] : is reconciliation possible?
dir. by Paul Saltzman« In 1965, 21-year-old Torontonian, Paul Saltzman, drove to Mississippi, volunteering as a civil rights worker with the Student Non-Violent Coordinating Committee. He was arrested, spending ten days in jail. He was assaulted by a young Klansman. In 2007, Saltzman returned to find the KKK member who had punched him in the head, to explore if individual reconciliation was possible. He found him and a five year dialogue has ensued. The film looks at race in the South with this latest film that sees him returning to the town where he was assaulted for being a civil rights worker in 1965. He sits down with the man who attacked him as he attempted to attend an SNCC meeting, a Klu Klux Klan member and son of the man who shot and killed Medgar Evers. Saltzman also talks with other key members in the civils rights debate, from current KKK members to an FBI agent who discusses the close relationship between white supremacy and the police force at the time to actor/singer/activist Harry Belafonte. Each subject speaks openly and honestly about their beliefs while Saltzman attempts to examine the cause of racism, the current climate in the South and the barriers that need to be overcome to eliminate the problem altogether. Morgan Freeman provides some context of social climate, discussing the nature of "race" as an issue. One particularly nail-biting segment features Harry Belafonte remembering the night he and Sidney Poitier delivered money to support the volunteers attempting to do voter registration in the Mississippi Delta and were followed by the Klan. Terrifying, but necessary to remember and as the film so adeptly illustrates, some places in the South have not come too far past where they were in the ’60s. »

réal. par Alain Resnais ; scénario Jorge Semprun«Le titre s'inspire du fameux document par lequel Franco déclara le 1er avril 1939 que la guerre civile était terminée. Le scénario de Jorge Semprún est très marqué par son histoire personnelle, sa lutte comme clandestin du Parti communiste espagnol, son éviction en 1964 de la direction du parti pour de graves divergences de vues avec le secrétaire général Santiago Carrillo. Dans son livre Autobiographie de Federico Sánchez, Jorge Semprún revient sur le thème du film en précisant : "L'un des thèmes principaux du film est justement la critique du mot d'ordre de grève générale conçu comme simple expédient idéologique, davantage destiné à unifier religieusement la conscience des militants qu'à agir sur la réalité." »

Je t'aime je t'aime [Film]
mise en scène Alain Resnais ; scénario Jacques Sternberg«Souvent teinté de surréalisme et d'onirisme, la filmographie d'Alain Resnais reste marquée par un essai de pur science-fiction, scénarisé par un spécialiste du genre, l'auteur de nouvelles Jacques Sternberg : Je t'aime je t'aime. Sorti six années après La jetée, ce film d'Alain Resnais n'est pas sans rappeler le photo-roman de son ami Chris Marker: un voyage dans le temps avec en guise de fil conducteur, le souvenir d'une femme, et une expérience scientifique dont la conclusion sera fatale pour le protagoniste principal. Mais à la différence du court-métrage de Marker, la thématique science-fictionelle de Je t'aime je t'aime se révèle plus en retrait, voire un prétexte pour le cinéaste. Le voyage temporel désordonné du protagoniste lui permet plus d'inscrire son film dans le champ d'une expérimentation formelle inédite, à partir d'un montage « aléatoire » et en adéquation avec le récit, que de placer le long métrage dans un espace fantastique normé.»

Lawrence, the Oxford-educated British army officer who aided the Arabs in their revolt against the Turks. Teaming up with Sherif Ali (Omar Sharif), Lawrence crosses a desert (considered uncrossable) in order to join two separate Arab tribes together as a single fighting force. Aiming to achieve Arab sovereignty, he wins a series of military victories but always keeps his eye on the larger picture, doing his best to prevent the subjection of the Arabs to British colonial rule. The film won seven Academy Awards including Best Picture and Best Director.»

Jorgen Randers, Annette Bus« Vor 40 Jahren erschütterte ein Buch den Fortschrittsglauben der Welt: Der Bericht "Die Grenzen des Wachstums" an den Club of Rome.
