There she discovers Yugiri, the only Japanese garden in Malaya, and its owner and creator, the enigmatic Aritomo, exiled former gardener of the Emperor of Japan. Aritomo refuses, but agrees to accept Yun Ling as his apprentice 'until the monsoon comes'. Then she can design a garden for herself.    "Peter von Matt’s Essayband “Das Kalb vor der Gotthardpost” ist der diesjährige Gewinner des Schweizer Literaturpreises. Es handele sich um “ein Buch, das in herausragender Weise zur Gegenwart der Schweiz“ spreche. „In Analysen von großer sprachlicher Kraft und gedanklicher Originalität beleuchtet Peter von Matt den Zusammenhang zwischen Literatur und Politik“, so die Begründung der Jury."
